The London Riot Evaluation

Riot Documentary Evaluation

What I had to do was is to create a documentary on The London Riots which took place in Summer 2011, the documentary had to be 1 - 3 minutes long and the aim of my documentary was to show public point of views towards the riots, the police and the impact it had on others.

My main target audiences was teenagers between the ages of 16-20 and aimed at both genders, I would say around 70% towards males and 30% towards females because of my primary and secondary research there is mainly male and no females but the question asked in the vox pox and the secondary videos and picture are aimed at both genders, also the ethnicity I decide to go for was muilt-culture so that it shows that the documentary is made from everyone point of view.

The research I carried out was that I did a vox pox as my primary research, the question I asked my was "what do they think about the riots?", "Do you think it gave the young british teenagers a bad image?", "How do you think the police handled the riots?". The reason I asked those question is because they were open questions which helps when a member of audiences is giving a answer to it because it can be a detailed answer and is much better then just a "Yes" and a "No". I also found some good videos from youtube as well as used a BBC timeline as my secondary research which shows how the riots spread through out the UK.

What I hope to achieve from my London Riot project is to inform people about how and when did the riots took place, why did it happened and show people point of view towards the London riots.

The things that went well with my research was that I didn't had much problem finding people who were willing to give their views towards the riots, also there was alot of secondry research available to us, such as Youtube, BBC and lots of other news paper articals. The things I could have done better with my research would be that I should interviewed more then just 3 people so that I could have had more option to pick the best people for my Vox Pop or included more in my documentary, which would have made my documentary mainly made from primary source, rather then secondary.

I think my technical skills with iMovie and with Flip Cam was really good because with Flip camera it was really easy to record and upload Vox Pop and with iMovie I found it quite easy to editted the footage because of the experience I'v had from my previous media tasks, such as making adverts, etc. But I did had some problem with Blogging, it wasn't that I didn't know how to upload or make a new post but had problems with uploading my doucmentary on to the blogger because everytime i tried uploading it would either say "proccessing video" for hours or it would say "Uploaded" but whenever I clicked on "!post it"  it wouldn't show on the blog main page.
